The Petrov Affair was a Cold War spy incident in Australia, concerning the defection of Vladimir Petrov, a KGB officer, from the Soviet embassy in Canberra in 1954. The defection led to a Royal Commission and the resulting controversy contributed to the Australian Labor Party split of 1955.

"The Case of Colonel Petrov" is the American edition of Michael Bialoguski's 1955 book, The Petrov Story, which details his central role in arranging the 1954 defection of Soviet official Vladimir Petrov to Australia. Bialoguski, a Polish-born doctor and part-time agent for the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), befriended Petrov and convinced him to provide information on Soviet espionage in exchange for political asylum. The book recounts these events, which became a defining moment of the Cold War in Australia.
