Jim 'Splinter' Walshe was among the first Australians to enlist when war broke out in 1939. He was drafted into the mortar platoon of the 2/30th Battalion and was among the first Australian troops to oppose the sudden Japanese thrust into southern Malaya. He was taken prisoner and spent time in both Changi and in Japan. Here he tells of his experiences in the Malayan campaign. 3 chapters cover the battle on the Malayan peninsula, one relates to his POW experiences and the final chapter tells of his release.
