After serving in the trenches in the Great War, Morris transferred to the 3rd Gurkha Rifles, he made two attempts to climb Mount Everest, accompanied on his second by Tenzing Norgay, he later worked for the BBC as head of the Far Eastern Service and as Controller of the Third Programme.
