Richard Seaton Flint was a strong, direct yet quietly-spoken supporter of the PIB-NGIB-HQ-PIR Association from its early days. Dick brought an experienced yet friendly eye to Commemoration Services at the Rotary Kokoda Memorial Wall, Broadbeach. Occasionally, Dick practised his excellent New Guinea Pidgin with suitable facial expressions.

Dick’s posting to PNG was as a Captain (R A Inf) and Adjutant in the Pacific Islands Regiment from 1957. He served under Lt Col Luke McGuinn MC at Taurama Barracks outside Port Moresby and at Vanimo Outstation near the border with then-Dutch New Guinea. Lt Col Jim Norrie OBE later posted Dick as Acting Company Commander to the Los Negros (Manus Island) Outstation until March 1961, serving with then-Lt. Brian Howard (who rated Dick highly as a Company Commander).

Dick served overseas several times, including the Vietnam War, and retired as a Brigadier to Banora Point, NSW, with his wife (who pre-deceased him). In his later years as a widower, Dick enjoyed the company of fellow PIR Officers and wives living at or visiting the Gold Coast.
