Eastern Epic (1951) By Compton Mackenzie
Mackenzie was commissioned by the Indian Army to write this history of the Indian Army in World War II because of his reputation as a novelist and writer of popular history. He was given access to army records and taken to various battlefields when preparing the work. The history was intended to extend to two volumes, but this one covering the period from 1940 to March 1943 was the only volume that was ever published.
