The son of a Colonel and Grandson of a General the author grew up in a traditional military atmosphere. He rebelled against his background and by the Fall of France in 1940 had become an adherent of National Socialism. In 1944 he enlisted as an Officer Cadet in the Charlemagne Division of the SS. After the war he was returned to France to stand trial as a collaborator and received a 5 year sentence
