In Hong Kong’s New Territories, wargaming enthusiasts gathered with replica guns to fight out a historically inspired mission based on the 1942 World War II battle Operation Winter Storm. The event was organised by Day Army, the biggest airsoft event agent in Hong Kong.
Between the citywide protests of 2019 and the start of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, Day Army founder Justin Lau and about 60 gaming enthusiasts managed to quickly stage their epic battle.
Hong Kong has a thriving business in weapons classified as “toys”, and the city is home to one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of replica guns. Alex Wong, who until recently was marketing and business director of Armed Forces, sells and customises the replica guns. In business for over 20 years, the shop in Mong Kok’s Kwong Wah Street, also known as Cheung Gai (meaning “gun street” in Cantonese) sponsors the airsoft guns sports games.
